Auction Love

In the December/January issue of House Beautiful, Bunny Williams talks about the great deals on Period Furniture to be had at Auctions – “why pay $12,000.00 for a new chest of drawers when you can buy a gorgeous hand made faded mahogany thing at auction for $1200.00”

This past weekend, I spent several hours at Nadeau’s Dec. 1st auction. The room was full and fabulous bargains to be had! Not only vintage chests, but dining room tables complete with chairs, a beautiful hand painted king size four poster bed, full sets of antique china from Stafford Shire to Fiesta ware and much more.

I was ecstatic to score on a custom made sectional that looked fresh from the workroom.

Not only was bidding lively and brisk, but the auction crowd was made up of many young fashionable people looking for something not only classic but unique in the world current big box decorating.

What a thrill to see. Bunny would be smiling.

ARTS and ANTIQUES – Fabulous Finds

The Excitement Of Fine Art Auctions

One of our highlights in the Hartford area is the New Years Day Arts and Antiques auction of fine art, antiques and decorative accessories at Nadeau’s Auction Gallery in Windsor, CT.Names on the Cup 2017 movie streaming

Ed Nadeau is the owner – operator of the gallery with his son Ed, Jr. and daughter, Heather as part of the team. New Years Day has been a tradition at Nadeaus for years and Ed saves his best finds for the standing room only crowd that fills the hall.

One of my clients was frantically bidding on a fabulous Louis Vuitton perfect condition trunk which was fitted with file drawers. We had the perfect spot picked out for this in his new office. In total, there were 2198 bids made on this trunk which sold for $14,950.00!!! Don’t know for sure, but I think this is a record price. My friend lost this round, but we are still on the hunt.trailer film The Discovery

The best buy of the day was a complete mahogany and satin wood dining room suite with 10 Chippendale style chairs, a double pedestal table, sideboard and breakfront. All made by Henredon, it was “as new”. Apparently few in the audience needed dining room furniture, because it sold for less than the current price of the 10 chairs, were they to be purchased new today.film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales online streaming

And lastly, at the other end of the spectrum; Christie’s New York set a record on January 21st for the sale of a three shell Newport bureau c 1765 made by the master craftsman John Goddard for his daughter Catherine. The price of $5,685,500.00 is a record for this type of piece and the fourth highest price ever paid for American furniture. (photo courtesy of Antiques and the Arts Weekly, Jan 28, 2011)
